Setting Up The Synthesizer
The only real way to setup and tune the synth is to use another keyboardfor tuning referance.
After all boards are mounted and wiring complete. Turn on the power. Checkfor +- 12VCD at the power supply. Let the synth warm up for a few minutes.
Check for 0VDC on PIN 13 of the TLO74 and 3VDC or 4VDC (depending on keyboardlength) on PIN 14 of the keyboard-interface board. If nessasary adjust the 10K10 turn trimmer connected to PIN 13 for 1 volt per octave.
Enter the basic-patch on the synth.
The synth should be silent, if it's making noise adjust the INIT LEVEL trimmer on the VCA-board until the synth is silent.
Press a key you should here both oscillators. If they are not the same frequency(and they won't be) turn the volume down on OSC-B then press and hold A1 on the referance keyboard adjust the RANGE trimmer for OSC-A until it matches. Turn upthe volume on OSC-B then adjust the RANGE trimmer for OSC-B until it matches theOSC-A frequency.
Turn the volume down on OSC-B. Press and hold A2 on the referance keyboard.Press A2 on the MINI-3 adjust the V/OCT trimmer for OSC-A until it matches. You may have to do this a few times to get it matched.
Turn the volume down on OSC-A. Then adjust OSC-B until it matches OSC-A.
Once the oscillators are in tune and scaled properly. Set the MOD, PITCH-BENDand TUNNING trimmers to your liking, start with them at about 50% and adjust from there.
Turn the FILTER CUTOFF pot to minimum and adjust the INIT FREQ trimmer untilthe sound is muffled. Turn the FILTER CUTOFF pot 50% then 100% the soundshould get brighter.
adjust the VCA BALANCE trimmer for minimum hum start at about 50%
Well thats it. You may (read will) have to tweek this and that from time totime but it's really very stable.
I hope you enjoy your MINI-3 synthesizer as much as I enjoy mine.
